   The Phantom of the Opera is originally a novel written by Gaston Leroux in 1910.  Since it’s a work of literature, there weren’t actors involved in the initial release.

   The characters come to life through the written descriptions and dialogue in the book. However, the novel has been adapted into many other forms, including the famous musical you might be thinking of.
