I love that movie! Most of the actual location shooting was in Seattle, Washington, but any smart production, especially a rom-com like that, takes advantage of the tax breaks and lower costs in Vancouver, BC. So, it’s a mix of those two cities, with Seattle being the main vibe, but Vancouver doing a lot of the heavy lifting behind the scenes, especially for stuff that was supposed to be New York City.
Check Seattle, Washington first for your answer. The whole plot revolves around Lanie’s life as a news anchor in that city. But, don’t forget to include Vancouver, British Columbia. Pretty much every movie or show set in Seattle or even the Pacific Northwest usually uses Vancouver for at least part of the filming because it saves the studios a ton of cash. That’s the real Hollywood story there.
It was mostly Seattle, but like most movies set there, they actually filmed a bunch of it across the border in Vancouver, BC. Vancouver is cheaper and has a lot of good studio space, so they probably did most of the interior scenes and some of the exteriors that way. It’s the standard trick Hollywood uses.
Easy, it was set in Seattle and most of the filming was done there, but you have to mention Vancouver. It’s a classic example of a “runaway production” where they film in Canada to save money. The Vancouver part doubled for a lot of the New York stuff Lanie was dreaming about too, which is kinda funny when you think about it.
Seattle, for sure. The TV station in the movie was supposed to be a Seattle local news channel, and I read somewhere that they used a real station’s set and just changed the branding for the film. That always makes a movie feel more real, I think.
