Church pastors, what is the most disturbing thing someone has confessed to you?
Mount Everest is taller than both Kīlauea and Mauna Loa in terms of elevation above sea level. Mount Everest, located in the Himalayas on the border between Nepal and China, is the tallest mountain in the world, with a peak that reaches approximately 8,848 meters (29,029 feet) above sea level.
However, if we consider the total height from base to summit, including the portion that lies beneath the ocean’s surface, Mauna Loa and Kīlauea are much larger. These two shield volcanoes are located on the Big Island of Hawaii and rise from the ocean floor. Mauna Loa stands approximately 9,170 meters (30,080 feet) from base to summit, while Kīlauea measures around 4,207 meters (13,803 feet) from base to summit. Therefore, when measured from base to summit, Mauna Loa is significantly taller than Mount Everest, although much of its height is submerged beneath the ocean’s surface.
