In Blackjack, if you tie with the dealer, it’s called a push or standoff. In this case, you neither win nor lose the hand. Your original bet is simply returned to you. This can happen in a couple of scenarios:
Both you and the dealer end up with the same hand value that isn’t a bust (over 21). This could be 17, 18, 19, or 20.
You both have Blackjack (a starting hand of an Ace and a ten-valued card).
While a tie isn’t ideal because you don’t win any money, it’s also not a complete loss. You get your bet back and can try your luck on the next hand.
Some casinos offer a rare side bet called a “Tie” or “Push” bet. This allows you to wager on the chance of the game ending in a tie, but it’s not a common option.
