  1. As others have said, it’s 2020 and things aren’t as uptight as they used to be. That being said, I think it’s kind of a regional thing. I work for a firm which does environmental remediation for big businesses (usually utilities) and in my role of hiring people for my job, I don’t hire people with visible tattoos or your non-traditional piercings (ears ok, I’d be ok with nose too as long as it wasn’t something too far fetched). But gauges in the ears, face tattoos, obscene tattoos that are visible are all a no go for hiring. I personally don’t have anything against them, but my industry tends to deal with more traditional people who have an antiquated view of how the world is now. When a potential client immediately dismisses your company based on the appearance of one of your employees, its extremely disheartening and unfortunately will make you shy away from hiring said people. Again, in a different region like say in Cali or New York it would be a whole lot different.

  2. Public Library system. Tattoos are okay as long as not inappropriate, colored hair is fine (mine has been various wild colors over my time at work), piercings are also fine, we have at least one employee with a septum piercing. I got my two wrist tattoos the day before our last annual Staff Day. I’ve only ever had 3 people at work ask about them, they’re the semi-colon for suicide attempts (or pervasive suicidal thoughts in my case, no actual attempts) and the ribbon for fetal loss because I had a baby stillborn at 29 weeks into the pregnancy. The tat that gets the most attention is on my upper bicep, it’s a girl sitting on a stack of books, reading a book, with lines floating around symbols of things that make me happy. Everyone loves it because I work in a library, especially when I tell them I got it before deciding to go into the library field.

  3. Apart from one tattoo on my anklebone, all my tattos are on my hands, if the workplace is going to discriminate becouse of my tattoos then i have no interest in working there annyway.

  4. I’m a dog groomer. Most people in this industry seem to have piercings and tattoos. I’ve never had an issue at job interviews. As a dishwasher, one place tried to get me to take out my facial piercing but I told them that if it was an issue I would just find somewhere else to work so they let me keep it lmao

  5. “I’m a PhD student, never once in my life has anyone done anything but say “hey that’s a cool tattoo what is it?”. It’s 2020 ffs. “

  6. “I have all of the above, and I’m a mail lady. I don’t know what their policy is on tattoos that feature things like naked people, booze, or drugs, since none of mine have that theme, but I know we can’t wear clothing that depicts such (I don’t wear a uniform, but must follow a simple dress code). I have worked at a place that didn’t allow visible body art (the exception being multiple ear lobe-only piercings), but I had “natural” colored hair at the time, and my piercings and tattoos were easily covered by my business casual clothing. “

  7. I work in Starbucks. Sadly, I can’t have unnaturally dyed hair because my store manager says so. The only modifications visible to customers are my gauged ears and a tattoo. I get a lot of compliments on my tattoo and curious questions about the holes in my ear lobes

  8. Currently a manager in accounting, previously an interpreter working in schools – visible tattoos have never been an issue.

  9. I work in HR on the same hallway as the president and I have 17 piercings two of which are in my nose and three visible tattoos. I do however dress very professionally so I think that balances it out. As long as you dress corporate the rest can slide lol

  10. I work in college admissions. My students love my tattoos, piercings, stretched ears, undercut and funky colored hair. My co-workers and boss don’t seem to care. No one has ever said anything.
