Any tornado victims need a hand w/ cleanup?
A Chinese paper yo-yo is a fun and simple toy. Here’s how to play with it:
Basic Play:
Hold the String: The paper yo-yo will be attached to a string with two handles. Hold one handle in each hand, with the yo-yo resting in your palm.
The Flick: For the basic play, you’ll use a flicking motion to send the yo-yo outward. Here are two options:
The Return: Gravity will naturally pull the yo-yo back towards you. As it gets close, slightly raise your hands (without pulling the string) to catch the string loop around the axle (center) of the yo-yo. This will wind the string back up and return the yo-yo to your hand position.
Tips:
Advanced Play:
Once you’ve mastered the basic play, you can try some tricks! Here are a couple of beginner-friendly options:
The Sleeper: After a flick, hold your hands still with the string taut. The yo-yo should spin in place for a short while.
The Walk the Dog: After a flick, gently move your hands up and down in a wave-like motion. This will make the yo-yo appear to “walk” up and down the string.
There are many other tricks you can learn with practice. You can find tutorials online or in books that show more advanced techniques.
