      • Lower Calorific Value (LCV) also known as Net Calorific Value (NCV): This represents the usable heat released by a unit mass or volume of fuel after complete combustion, assuming the water vapor produced exits the system as a gas and doesn’t condense.

      • Here’s the key difference:

        • HCV gives a higher value because it includes the heat from condensing water vapor.
        • LCV gives a lower value because it doesn’t account for the energy used to vaporize water, which isn’t always recovered in practical applications (like car engines) where the exhaust gases escape hot.

        • Here’s an analogy:

          Imagine burning wood in a fireplace. The total heat released by the burning wood is the HCV. However, some heat escapes up the chimney with the hot flue gases containing water vapor. The LCV represents the actual heat you feel radiating from the fireplace, which doesn’t include the heat lost in the exhaust.
