I think it's a combination of a few things: first of all, there's usually a seam for the fabric going across your vagina. This is a seem that gets a lot of rubbing and pressure on it, so it's likely to break. Mine always develop holes on this seam. Secondly, is your vagina varies from moist to soaking, and if you soak a material and abrade it, it will become more fragile and likely to break. Thirdly, the vaginal secretions are slightly acidic. Fourthly, there's also probably a bit of pee on you, even the tiniest drop, will be on your panties and start eating through it. Urine is definitely acidic and damaging. Lastly, most girls I know bitch about this, so even if the above is all bullshit it's still normal.

If your waistband doesn't fall apart first, holes will start to appear around the seam that divides your underwear. The most motion happens in this region - especially since female underwear is designed to be held especially close to your body. Very interesting. Guess my vag juices aren't acidic enough because I have plenty of panties (high quality cotton, sturdy ones from VS) that are 5 years old now, worn daily. I hope this doesn't get burried. I'm a runner and until this year I actually preferred running in boxer-briefs and shorts (i've since switched to linered shorts). After a while they would all get holes in them, just like what you describe. It's possible there is a chemical aspect to this, but mostly it is normal wear and tear.
